Gynaecomastia
What is gynaecomastia?
Gynaecomastia is a benign condition among men that involves increased growth of normal breast tissue. It is usually noticed as a breast enlargement and can happen in one breast or both. It can be related to a change in hormones (usually seen in teenage boys and older men), or caused by an underlying condition or side effect of medications.
What is the treatment for gynaecomastia?
Dr Bell will perform a detailed workup to identify any potential underlying cause and to rule out a more serious pathology. Surgery to remove the extra breast tissue (subcutaneous mastectomy) is only required in a minority of cases. Dr Bell will be able to explain the procedure in more detail if surgery is recommended in your situation.
